Joe Eula

Joseph “Eula” was an illustrious American fashion illustrator, who was trusted for his tastes, his aesthetics and his views. Eula worked with all the renowned fashion labels in the 50’,60’s and going into the 70’s. Coco Chanel, Hubert de Givenchy, Gianni Versace, Christian Dior and Karl Langerfeld. Especially for his friend, Eugenia Sheppard, the most well known fashion journalist of the 50’s and 60’s.
He was a charming and magnetic and he drew people wherever he went. If there was a way to describe a glamorous high fashion life, it would be “Eula’. In the words of his friend And Warhol, “He knows everybody who’s anybody. Anybody who’s somebody…all the really chic people.” His apartment in Manhattan was bright with parties and his guests included Halston, Coco Chanel, Lauren Bacall, Liza Minelli, Diana Vreeland, Yves Saint Laurent, to name just a few.

In his career that spanned 5 decades, Eula remained with the “House of Halston” for the longest time, where he was creative director throughout the 70’s. Eula was intrinsic in helping him mold his line and image to the recognizable qualities defining the brand today. Joe Eula served as Halston's Creative Director throughout the 1970's.

Many of you might have seen the fantastic biographical film “HALSTON” on Netflix starring Ewan McGregor. Joe Eula, played Tony-nominated actor David Pittu, was one of the core squad which included Elsa Peretti and Liza Minnelli that became the foundation for Halston to become one of the great fashion stories.
